Michael is a teacher, debate coach, and union leader in Clackamas County. He has dedicated his life to helping young people find their voice. Now he’s running for the Democratic nomination to make sure Oregon continues to be a place where families can build their lives.

He has worked with leaders from city, state, and federal levels to advocate for students and families, and he’ll bring that same collaborative leadership to Salem. He believes Oregon City, Gladstone, Jennings Lodge, Johnson City, Oatfield and greater Clackamas County deserve a strong voice in the Legislature. Learn More About Michael.

Michael Will Fight For Us

Michael is running for the Democratic nomination to ensure Oregon is a welcoming, safe, and affordable place where our community can thrive. He believes every family deserves stability: good jobs, a home they can afford, neighborhoods where they feel secure, and a future full of opportunity for our kids.

As a teacher and community leader, he’s seen how rising costs, strained local services, and growing division make it harder for people to stay in the communities they love. Michael is stepping up to protect what makes Oregon special and fix what’s getting in the way, so every Oregonian can build a good life here and truly feel like they belong.

Michael especially wants our young people to see a bright future here at home in the neighborhoods, work spaces, and downtown spaces that make our communities unique.

"I am endorsing Michael Sugar for House District 40.  Michael will continue to be a strong voice for Clackamas county, following in the footsteps of Representative Hartman and Senator Meek.  He will keep our community’s priorities at the forefront:

  • getting the state to invest in our infrastructure,
  • fixing ODOT,
  • and improving housing policy so our cities have a say and families can afford to live here."
